With all the recent talk about the purple spots seen on Olympic athletes such as Michael Phelps during the 2016 Rio Games, the word “cupping” has been on many people’s lips.
It’s an ancient eastern therapy (though the Greeks would argue it’s Vendouzes) that helps relieve the body’s aches and pains while also stimulating muscles and blood flow. Round glass suction cups are warmed up and then placed on sore parts of the body, creating a vacuum and resulting in large round bruise-like welts.
