Vancouver Police say they took an unusually high number of impaired drivers off the streets last Friday: 17.
In a three-day-period from Friday, August 5th to Sunday, August 7th, a total of 32 drivers had their cars impounded.
VPD Constable Brian Montague says these numbers are not typical.
“Normally, we were seeing anywhere between seven and eight. But to see seventeen drivers stopped on those road checks in one night, is a fairly high number.”
Vancouver has seen an uptick of Immediate Roadside Prohibitions this summer, and Montague is, once again, making the call for people to do the right thing.
“I think what the bottom line is, is that, there are still people who are making very poor decisions by drinking too much, and getting behind the wheel of a car. Not only putting their lives at risk, but also the lives of others.”
In June and July 2015, police took 200 drivers off the road.
For the same time period this year, 258.
