Just how concerned are B.C. residents travelling to Florida after American health officials warned pregnant women to avoid parts of Miami?
A warning was issued last week after 10 people in the state had been diagnosed with local cases of the virus.
Travel Expert Claire Newell says even with more homegrown Zika cases diagnosed in Florida, travelers don’t seem to be worried.
“At this stage of the game, we’re seeing people going into Miami, Fort Lauderdale, picking up their cruises from those destinations, spending a great deal of time there.
As for BC snowbirds who like to get away in the winter…
“People are still planning those types of trips, where they’re going down for a month or two over our winter.”
Last week the B.C. Centre for Disease Control said there’s no concern the tropical mosquito will make its way to the West coast from Florida.
