It’s the second rally in just as many days to save East Vancouver Schools.
Over 100 parents and students gathered at A.R. Lord Elementary protesting against school closures next year.
It’s one of the 12 schools on the Vancouver School Board’s chopping block.
Rally after rally this year, Parent Ilona Davidson fears the board may have made its final decision.
“We have to been to care, we have to be seen to be active, and we have to be seen to fight. If we don’t fight, we don’t put up some kind of resistance then there will be no hope. I think the decision has already been made, that’s my fear.”
Davidson says this is just the beginning, there will be more rallies to come.
“Rally after rally until we can’t do anything else.”
Do parents think rallies will get the message across?
Sherry Brashears has two boys at the school.
“If we are silent then we can be guaranteed that they won’t be listening because there’s nothing to hear. So we need to make our voices loud and strong and be sending our messages out again and again.”
VSB Trustee Patti Bacchus assured parents at the rally the list is not final and there will be consultations in the fall, with the final decision in December.
