Despite requests from a local Black Lives Matter Chapter, the Vancouver Police Department stands by their decision to walk in this year’s Pride Parade.
However, there’s going to be one minor change.
“Our department looks forward to this every year, we’ve been marching in this parade since 1997.”
Sergeant Randy Fincham says officers met with members of the local Black Lives Matter chapter and discussed some of the group’s concerns.
And as a result….
“We have decided, this year to not include our citizen rescue vehicle, which is our armoured vehicle in that parade, you won’t see that this year.”
Fincham would not reveal specific reason to why the armoured vehicle will be excluded.
Earlier this month, the local chapter penned an open letter to the VPD and Vancouver Pride Society, saying police involvement creates an unsafe atmosphere.
