A grassroots Surrey organization is calling for a multi-level government meeting in light of the ever-growing drug overdose problem in the city as well as the escalating gun violence.
Surrey Association of Sustainable Communities coordinator Darlene Bowyer says enough’s enough and people aren’t feeling safe anymore.
“Well there’s not any area in Surrey that’s not untouched by this. We’ve had multiple shootings, 40 plus, in the whole of Surrey this year and it’s all drug-related.”
Bowyer says there appears to be a lack of willingness at the local level to do much about the problem.
“We have reports that have been worked on by MLA’s and by head coroner’s that sit on the shelf and collect dust and they have very good recommendations on how we can solve the problems.”
