A Vancouver man won’t be swashbuckling any time soon, after getting after his phony gun caused a real scare an a Vancouver bus.
Transit Police Spokesperson Anne Drennan says officers were called to Granville and Broadway yesterday after a bus passenger spotted a man packing what looked like a real gun tucked into his belt.
She says police quickly caught up with him nearby, and figured out what was going on.
“At first glance it almost looked like a sawed off shotgun, which is super frightening. And then the officers realized no, it was a replica of one of these older flint-lock style guns that are the ones that were used in Pirates of the Caribbean.”
She says officers confiscated the gun, but that the man is facing real consequences.
Drennan says 44-year-old Francis Boivin was on parole at the time, with conditions that included not possessing any firearms or replicas, or being in the area where he was arrested.
He’s due back in court tomorrow to handle the breach of those conditions.
