A shocking update on the spike in Surrey overdoses this weekend with Fraser Health reporting 16 new cases.
That brings the total number of overdoses in the region to 36 in just 48 hours.
Chief Medical Health officer Victoria Lee says it looks like a batch of tainted drugs is to blame.
“Many individuals report using what they believe was crack cocaine, however fentanyl was also detected in some of the tests. So we are concerned that crack cocaine that may be circulating may be contaminated with fentanyl.”
Lee says the majority of the cases have been in Surrey’s Whalley area, and so far there have been no deaths.
She says people are being warned to avoid crack and cocaine, and if not, to ensure they aren’t alone and have Naloxone on hand.
