The NDP is repeating calls for the B.C. government to investigate cases of declared low income people, buying into Vancouver’s high value real estate market.
NDP Housing Critic David Eby cited a new report which found poverty rates are much higher in expensive neighbourhoods in Vancouver than other regions in Canada.
Eby says the government’s focus on who’s buying property and where they are from is a distraction from the real issue.
“Which is not international people in our housing market but international money in our housing market, the way I believe we should track money that’s coming from outside our local economy is to use the income tax system.”
The report calls for more data linking incomes to more housing transactions and housing values.
