A new, online branch of B-C’s legal system will be a world’s first.
The Civil Resolution Tribunal will soon replace the B-C Supreme court in handling both strata and small claims disputes.
Justice Minister Suzanne Anton says the model could be expanded to other disputes if it works out.
“Strata is our starting point, small claims is our next stop, but we will be looking beyond that as to whether or not there are other tribunals that will fit on this platform, and that will use this platform for dispute resolution as well.”
The province says the C-R-T will cut costs, complexity, and delays that currently plague the court system.
It rolls out for strata’s this fall — for small claims next spring — and will eventually be mandatory.
