While the death toll continued to climb from the terror attack in Nice, French, people in Vancouver were determined to celebrate Bastille Day peacefully.
You couldn’t imagine a starker contrast – live music from a French Jazz band, children dancing, and friends chatting. Bastille Day celebrations in Vancouver as peaceful here as they should have been in Nice.
But the terror attack wasn’t far from people’s minds. One man named Pierre told us people at the Roundhouse Community Centre were determined to have a good time.
“It seems to be what happened in France after the horrific scene that happened this year.”
“After the shock people just want to keep on going, otherwise you just surrender.”
There was a police presence at the event, one organizer saying they were brought in after news of the the terror attack in Nice broke.
