A package containing three venomous mountain pit vipers was intercepted on its way to Manitoba last week.
The BC Canada Post Distribution Centre in Richmond uncovered the snakes to find two already dead, and the other slithering loose.
BC Conservation Officer Chris Doyle says the vipers could have caused serious harm if released.
“These snakes can be very dangerous and no anti-venom exists in Canada for this type of snake.”
Doyle says the origins of the package are under current investigation.
