“Some people came to my door and when I woke up I saw a lot of smoke.”
Residents of an apartment building are displaced and a downtown block shut down during the busy morning commute after a fire broke out this morning.
40 firefighters and 8 fire trucks respond to the 2-alarm fire in the 1100 block of Davie street.
Vancouver Fire Public Information Officer Jonathan Gormick says it’s a woodframe 3-story residential/commercial building.
“We made access to the wall, knocked down the fire, checked for extension through the rest of the building. At this time the fire is knocked down but we have some residents that have been displaced from the building.”
No injuries and no word on a cause.
Davie Street remains closed between Bute and Thurlow.
