Housing protesters swarmed Vancouver City Hall today, demanding a meeting with Mayor Gregor Robertson, and after hours of waiting finally got their wish.
The mayor sat with demonstrators, many from the tent city at 58 West Hastings, who are demanding toilets, washing stations, and garbage pickup.
But protester Jennifer Allan says the mayor refused.
“Because basically he looks at it as that it will just keep the camp going, he’s seen this story before with these encampments such as Occupy Vancouver, and Oppenheimer park in 2014, and people have passed away and he really feels that this camp is going to get worse and people are going to die.”
Instead the mayor said he would like to see the tent city shut down and people moved into proper social housing.
