“You could’ve had potentially a fully loaded tractor trailer with an unconscious or worse driver out of control.”
Lorne Lecker with Deas Island Traffic Services says an incident yesterday could’ve been deadly.
Monday morning officers responded to calls of a fully loaded tractor trailer swerving on the road.
When officers arrived the driver was able to stop the tractor trailer but officers quickly realized something was wrong.
“One of the things they noticed was the sagging on one side of the face as supposed to the other side. Also there was quite a differential in strength between the two hands.”
Turns out the 53-year-old driver was suffering from a stroke.
He was taken to hospital but Lecker says the consequences could’ve been devastating.
“It could easily crush a vehicle by going over it, it could easily go through the centre divider on a highway and wind up on the wrong side of the road or penetrate a building.”
He says he’s grateful for the public’s help for reporting the incident right away.
