A man who claims he was the victim of sexual assault while attending Glenwood Elementary school is suing the Maple Ridge School District 25 years later.
The former student is suing the district for negligence and damages.
In a notice of civil claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court, the man who was 5-years-old at the time alleges Joseph Duff touched his genitals and performed sexual acts between 1991 and 1993.
Duff, now deceased, was in charge of arranging games and sports with students and participated in activities.
The man’s family reported the incidents to the school, but Duff continued to work there.
The document claims the school failed to act, so the family moved, switching schools.
In 2001, the RCMP approached the alleged victim and said other students came forward with sexual abuse allegations against Duff.
Records show Duff was accused of sexual assault, sexual interference of a person under 16 and Fear of injury over a decade ago.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
