The City of Vancouver says it will be submitting a report to Council next week that recommends new housing mix policies.
It says it aims to increase the supply of family homes in new strata and rental buildings.
In a statement, Mayor Gregor Robertson says this move would “help make neighbourhoods more family friendly and vibrant, and…as Vancouver grows, families can find housing options that work for them.”
The policy proposed includes a minimum requirement of 35 per cent family units in new condominiums, as well as a minimum target of 35 percent two and three bedroom family units for secured market rental buildings.
The City’s current policies aim for 25% two and three bedroom units in new stratas and rentals.
They says the policy would change as the city grows.
