B.C. Hydro’s latest employment statistics are out on the Site C Dam project.
Energy Minister Bill Bennett says it’s worth celebrating.
“The milestone was 1,547 total workers in May, 79% of those being from B.C. our average over the 10 months being 70% British Columbian.”
In the past, labour groups expressed concern that people in B.C. would lose jobs to out of province or temporary foreign workers.
Bennett says number do fluctuate.
“No reason for anybody to think it’s going to drop below that, if you want to work on Site C and your qualified and you have the right training, you’re going to get your opportunity.”
The project has a price tag of $7.9 billion dollars.
