The Independent Investigations Office is investigating a police-involved shooting in Summerland.
In a release, the RCMP say it happened at around 3 A.M. Saturday morning after an officer tried to pull over a car.
The release says the suspect’s vehicle allegedly struck the police vehicle when it fled the area, and “the police officer fired several shots during the interaction, and was not injured.”
Aidan Buckley with the IIO:
“This vehicle left the area and the police officer was uninjured. Several hours later, according to police, a male attended a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound, which may be connected to the earlier incident.”
Both the IIO and Penticton Serious Crimes Unit are investigating.
A man living in the complex where the incident occurred told Global News he heard what sounded like someone banging on his door around 3 a.m.
The next morning, he spoke to a woman across the street who said she believed she heard gunshots.
