B.C.’s Seniors Advocate has found a startling correlation between funding and resident-on-resident aggression.
In a report released today, Isobel Mackenzie says the care homes with the highest incidents of violence also had slightly less funded direct care hours.
Mackenzie says the finding was a surprise, because these homes tended to have residents with more complex needs.
She says she’s pleased BC’s Health Minister has called for a systemic review of provincial care hours.
The report also found a third of all incidents of resident-on-resident violence took place within a resident’s room.
In most cases the aggressor was a man and the victim was a woman.
