A cab driver has been fired after failing a roadside drinking test while on the job.
“Are you… Are you okay? Are you sure?”
Three young women knew something was wrong when their taxi driver drove up the lawn when picking them up last Friday.
“We tried to open the sliding doors, but it wasn’t that he wasn’t letting us out, it was that he couldn’t quite figure out how to actually unlock the van. It took him quite a while to process.”
One of the girls called her dad who blocked the taxi until Surrey RCMP arrived.
According to Global News, the taxi from Pacific Cabs has been seized for 30 days.
The driver also got a 90-day driving prohibition.
A statement from Pacific Cabs says the driver’s licence was penalized for 3 months , has been fired from Pacific Cabs, and will not be able to drive for them in the future.
BC Taxi Association Reacts
“It is absolutely unacceptable.”
The BC Taxi Association’s reaction to news of the taxi driver failing a road side drinking test while on the job in Surrey.
“We do not want any of our drivers, any of of our drivers, not one, to be unsafe to drive others.”
Mohan Kang says the actions of the Pacific Cabs driver, are rare.
He says he will be looking into the incident but does not think drivers need to be checked randomly.
