In North Vancouver today, it’s the community’s turn to give back to North Shore Rescue
“We’ll be talking about hiking safety and there will be a beer garden with some live entertainment so it should be fun for all ages”
North Shore Rescue members risk their lives throughout the year to bring people back to safety who run into trouble on the mountains.
The team is looking to get a little back to keep operations running.
Mike Danks says the crew is hosting an event called “Rescue Fest”.
Money raised will go to the Tim Jones Legacy Fund.
Danks says through yearly fundraising events, the team hopes to eventually raise $6 million dollars.
From that amount, Danks says the goal is to sustain operations throughout the year from the interest.
“It’s a really key thing for us to take the pressure off our volunteers, so they can focus on doing the rescues instead of getting out and raising funds to keep the team going.”
NSR attends an average of 100 calls per year, this year they’ve already responded to 52.
If you’re looking to head to the event, it kicks off at 5p.m. at the pier at Shipbuilder’s Square in North Vancouver and ends at 11p.m.
