A group of killer whales, four of them, were spotted at English Bay early Friday afternoon.
While it’s an unusual sight that many get excited for, the Vancouver Aquarium warns the public to be ‘Whale Wise.’
Tessa Denellesko with the Vancouver Aquarium says Vancouverites could see more sightings in the future, but cautions those enthusiastic to get up close.
“Everyone should stay at least 100 meters away from any type of marine wildlife, including marine mammals and killer whales, and to travel parallel alongside. And to be very alert and aware when you’re travelling through waters where whales have recently been seen.”
Denellesko says the pod is making their way to the Strait of Georgia.
She adds they might come back.
“With transient killer whales, they can travel up and down the coast when they please.”
“They don’t really stick to a set route or migration or anything, it’s certainly possible we might see them again.”
