It started slow, but in the end the BC Lions squeaked out a win over the Calgary Stampeders at B.C. Place Saturday night.
A relatively quiet first quarter saw Rene Parades whiff a field goal attempt, netting the Stampeders a single point.
They’d add another three in the second quarter, taking their lead to 4-0.
The lead stretched on, with Jorden scoring an 18 yard TD, but missing the extra point to take it to 10-0.
BC’s Richie Leone managed to put the Lions on the board shortly before halftime, with a field goal ending the quarter 10-3.
The third quarter the Lions began to pick up steam – with another successful field goal shortening the gap to 10-6 for Calgary – which only lasted a couple of minutes, before Calgary scored another touchdown, edging their lead to 17-6.
BC’s Chris Rainey managed to net a touchdown, but missed the 2-point pass to end the third quarter 17-12 for Calgary.
The fourth quarter, Rainey made a 72 yard punt return, scoring a touchdown to take the Lions 20-17 over Calgary.
The Stampeders missed yet another field goal attempt, ending the game 20-18 for BC.
The Lions next play in Hamilton, Canada Day.
