Have you seen a six-foot tiger pelt recently?
The Fairmont Empress is on the prowl for an iconic Bengal pelt which has been a fixture of the hotel since the 1940s.
It went missing sometime on Tuesday.
“It’s quite an iconic local artifact and it appears as though someone walked off with it we believe on Tuesday between 3:30 and 8:00pm.”
Spokesperson Bowen Osoko says the pelt is valued at around $2,500, but it holds much more sentimental value to the hotel.
Victoria Police spokesperson Bowen Osoko says it went missing once as a prank in the past and it’s hoped this may be another.
“The hope is that it hasn’t come to damage or harm, but with this kind of thing, we never make a conclusion about what’s out there until we’ve investigated and gathered all the evidence.”
Osoko says police are reviewing security footage as part of their investigation.
