The Vancouver Island Health Authority says a massive privacy breach that affects nearly 200 patients involves local celebrities.
The breach took place when two employees used their access privileges to view the records of patients not in their care.
Kathy MacNeil with Island Health says the people affected by the breach were known to the two employees, who have seen been let-go.
“I think there was a broad range of people they accessed mostly family, friends, co-workers and there are also some public celebrities who were accessed.”
The privacy breach was discovered in April after a routine audit was run of employee access to the Electronic Health Record.
Island Health says it is “sincerely sorry” to its clients, patients and residents over the breach.
