The body of a 19-year-old foreign exchange student who drowned on the Sunshine Coast has been recovered.
It was supposed to be a week of fun and faith for students from Idaho on a school retreat to Canada.
But it turned tragic last week after 19-year-old Hanwoo Lee disappeared into the unforgiving Malibu Rapids near Egmont on the Sunshine Coast.
Staff at the Malibu Club Christian youth camp where the teen was staying confirm RCMP divers recovered his body Friday night.
The camp posted a statement on its website saying: “we continue to grieve with and for this young man’s family, and to do all we can to care for and support them at this difficult time.”
Lee was from South Korea, attending Challis Junior and Senior High School in Idaho.
Local media reporting the school is providing support and counselling to students today.
