There’s a major problem in downtown Ottawa this morning, and it has nothing to do with politics.
A sinkhole that opened several hours ago at Rideau and Sussex Drive is now the full width of the street and growing, with water from broken pipes blasting through it.
A light pole and nearby vehicle have both been swallowed up by the sinkhole.
It’s also broken a natural gas line, which has forced firefighters back from the edge, as they try and determine what to do.
Several buildings, including the nearby Rideau Centre shopping mall, have been evacuated as a precaution.
Rideau St. is closed completely between Sussex Dr. to Dalhousie St.
Below are some video and pictures of the scene.
