A pair of Vancouver families are taking a U.S.-based sperm bank to court after alleging they were misled about their donor’s medical and social history.
The families both used the same donor, who they say was diagnosed with schizophrenia and narcissistic personality disorder and was a convicted felon.
This, after a screening process from Xytex Corp had boasted donor #9623 as a man with an IQ of 160 and multiple post-secondary degrees and had an impressive medical health record.
Xytex has been subject to other lawsuits involving families in Ontario – involving the same donor.
On its website, the company president says in a letter from 2015 that they stand by the process they followed, and intend to vigorously defend themselves against the allegations from the separate suits.
The allegations haven’t been proven in court, and a statement of defense has not been filed.
