Two years after he starved close to death in his mother’s own restaurant, some justice for a little boy in Surrey provincial court today.
The boy, who cannot be named, was rescued after he was taken to hospital in 2014 in a state that alarmed medical staff to his emaciated condition – his mother charged with failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
She pleaded guilty to the 1st charge, and today was sentenced to one year’s jail and two years probation.
The Crown called for 18 month to 2 years imprisonment less and 2 years probation, the defence wanted a crafted conditional sentence for the mother, who they described as “not a case of a person who lacks insight” & is taking responsibility for what she did.
At the sentencing hearing in April, the court heard doctors won’t know what effect his starvation will have until he’s 9-years-old.
For now he has delays in motor, cognitive & social development
