At the end of the month, the Vancouver School Board is expected to hand in a balanced budget.
With the June 30th deadline looming, the Parent Advocacy Group is asking for a face-to-face meeting with B.C.’s Education Minister in a bid to save schools and programs.
Andrea Sinclair with PAN says the group sent an email to Mike Bernier earlier this week.
“To discuss the unique predicament of the Vancouver situation. We have the highest shortfall. We also have unique challenges that other districts don’t have.”
Sinclair says she received an automatic reply back from two accounts.
The Education Minister says he has not come across the email.
“You know what it probably is in my office, my apologies. I haven’t had a chance, I’ve been on the road the last couple weeks.”
Bernier was asked if he would consider the meeting.
“I can’t commit to anything, because my calendar is already full.”
Sinclair says it’s disappointing.
“Disheartening, but at the same time it’s not really surprising.”
Sinclair says she also sent the same letter to Finance Minster Mike de Jong.
