Bike to work is starting next week – in an effort to convince more people to change how they commute to work.
Emma Cunnington with Bike to Work Week says the event saw 2,000 new cyclists on the roads last year alone.
“We definitely see an increase in cyclists and throughout the years, this is our tenth year of bike to work week, and each year we see a growth in numbers of people participating.”
She adds the goal is to have new people try to bike to work.
“You don’t have to have a really fast bike, we definitely encourage community cycling where you can wear your work clothes, take your time and enjoy the fresh air.”
Cunnington says the main goal is to get people to realize how convenient it is to bike to work – and how easy it can be.
She says part of the increase in numbers is also attributed to better infrastructure in Metro Vancouver.
Celebration stations will be set up throughout Metro Vancouver to give away prizes to those who register their commute during the week-long event.
The week-long event starts May 30th.
