Amid accusations of a lack of transparency by the chair at last night’s public hearing at City Hall, Green and NPA Councillors are defending their decision to walk out.
That move denied chair Raymond Louie a quorum to continue, when NPA Councillors George Affleck, Melissa De Genova, and Elizabeth Ball of the NPA along with Green Adrianne Carr left.
They’re citing a lack of transparency by Louie during a rezoning hearing regarding a tower proposal for 3365 Commercial Drive and 1695-1775 East 18th Avenue.
Meanwhile there was dismay over social media that the online live feed was cut, just as things were getting interesting.
Carr says she has her suspicions about that.
“I did have somebody call me this morning that they’re interpretation was that that feed was cut internally, so it was a cut that happened inside city hall.”
“I think that is an interesting matter that I think that needs to be pursued
Lack of transparency?
Was the chair at last night’s meeting not transparent?
That’s the accusation leveled today at acting mayor Councillor Raymond Louie by opposition Councillors, who are upset over what they call Louie’s “highly questionable rulings.”
But Louie says the councilors’ intention was to frustrate the process of having a public hearing.
“I says that that is totally inappropriate and that is not their job.”
“They were elected to take on the job of making hard decisions, and in this this instance they decided that rather than make a decision they shirked from that responsibility and walked away from it entirety.”
Louie adds he knows nothing about why the feed was cut, adding he would have liked the public to see last night’s proceedings.
