It’s been called an eyesore and visual pollution by many Vancouverites in the False Creek neighborhood.
And today, the City of Vancouver is holding a public hearing on the future of floating billboards in False Creek and English Bay.
Today, council will hear from people who are for or against floating advertisements like the 12-meter wide illuminated billboard that was placed on a vessel in March.
Chair of the False Creek Residents Association, Patsy McMillan says only people who stand to make a dime will oppose the amendment.
“The people that will be against the amendment, are the people who will financially benefit from those floating billboards.”
If approved the amendment would prohibit floating signs, except those smaller than one square meter.
