Vancouver Police are warning people to be alert about theft from vehicles.
This year in Vancouver there have already been five thousand thefts of items from cars, an increase of almost 50 per cent over last year.
Constable Brian Montague says the public and the police need to work together to prevent these crimes.
“The police have a role to play, education and enforcement. I can tell you we catch people daily breaking into cars. But the public plays a huge role in this as well, and that’s by simply not leaving anything inside.”
Montague says the majority of these incidents occur when items are visible inside of cars, and the best way to prevent them is to remove valuables from your vehicle.
