The Independent Investigations Office is continuing its look into the police shooting deaths of a man and his mother in Granisle last month.
A lot of work has taken place in the month since 39-year-old Joe Williams and 73-year-old Shirley Williams were shot and killed by police in the small Northern Interior community on April 21st.
Witnesses have been interviewed and evidence has been collected — including the seizure of police and non-police issued weapons.
The police watchdog is now confirming police were called to the scene after a complaint of assault involving neighbours.
Joe Williams was shot after an interaction with police.
Shortly after, his mother interacted with police, and was also shot.
The IIO says it participated in a town hall meeting, attended by 100 people.
The deaths have divided the community — with some questioning whether racism was involved.
