Residents of a community in the Peace River are heading home tonight, after the regional district downgraded an evacuation order to an alert.
But people in the Blueberry River First Nations and Electoral Area B, both about 45 kilometers north of Fort St. John, will still need to be ready to leave on a moment’s notice.
But as District Chair Karen Goodings explains the ordeal is far from over:
“So the Beatton River Fire has been reduced from order to alert and the Syphon Creek fire remains as an alert”
Crews will contain to work on the ground fighting the fires and non-residents are asked to stay clear of the areas on evacuation alert.
The 15,000 hectare fire about 45 km north of Fort St. John has been burning since last month, and has experienced flare ups prompting two evacuation orders.
