CBS Sports is being dunked online by Toronto Raptors fans, after an apparent “snub” by the broadcaster in an online fan poll.
The uproar started this morning after the poll surfaced listing four possible winners for the NBA title… but with one name conspicuously missing.
Fans were quick to respond with humour laced outrage, adopting the “other” moniker into the team’s slogan “We The North.”
Even Toronto Mayor John Tory got in on the action, penning at typically Canadian letter to CBS in which he says “we’re not the slightest bit offended,” and that “basketball was actually invented by a Canadian. You’re welcome!”
Other polls popped up, turning the tables.
And the Raptors themselves embraced the gag, changing their Twitter bio to “The other team.”
The poll has since been updated, and in a now-deleted Tweet, CBS explained the brouhaha, writing that the poll had been created before the buzzer went on Toronto and Miami’s game seven match, and that “Raptors/Heat wouldn’t fit!”
The Raptors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers for game one of the Eastern Conference finals at 5:30 this evening.
