Days after the fires destroyed 2400 homes and buildings in Fort McMurray, firefighters say they’ll be part of the rebuild of their community.
While they tried to save the homes of others, around 20 firefighters lost their own homes to the flames.
Speaking on The Jon McComb Show on CKNW, fire captian Nick Waddington says they will help rebuild the 10% of the city that was lost.
“None of us feel that our job is done, we’re really committed to being part of the rebuilding effort. We’re going to do whatever it takes, now that the structural firefighting part of it is over. We have the ability, we have the manpower – we’re going to do everything we can.”
88,000 people fled Fort McMurray, many of them now living in shelters scattered across Alberta.
