As part of its plans to make housing more affordable in Vancouver, Mayor Gregor Robertson announced today what he describes as the next step for low income earners.
Two sites have been named as the sites for modular housing to be run by non-profit groups; one at 1500 Main Street, the other on 1060 Howe Street .
Chief Housing Officer Mukhtar Latif says the project on Main Street should be finished by early next year.
“We’re moving fast to take the project through to the RFP and obviously take it to the planning process and get started onsite, but we’re looking at early 2017.”
The Howe Street site will likely see around 40 units with bathrooms and shared kitchens, the Main Street site will see up to 80 units, each with bathrooms and kitchens.
The Bosman Hotel is located at 1060 Howe Street and is currently run by the Portland Hotel Society with 100 interim supportive housing units funded by the city.
