The charge comes after an investigation into sexual misconduct raised by a civilian employee, who worked with Shields when he was the Officer in Charge of the Strategic Communications Unit.
It’s alleged to have occurred between 2009 and 2010.
In May 2015, Shields was suspended with pay in relation to a Code of Conduct investigation.
Following that, Shields submitted his discharge papers in December 2015, effectively ending the jurisdiction of the RCMP to proceed with a conduct hearing on the allegations.
Shields is set to appear in Vancouver Provincial Court on June 27th.
