The mayors of Victoria and Esquimalt have filed affidavits in court defending themselves in their roles as Police Board chair and co-chair in the case of accusations against Victoria Police Chief Frank Elsner.
The mayors, Lisa Helps and Barbara Desjardins, say they followed due process in an investigation launched over Elsner sending inappropriate messages to the wife of an officer in his command.
He has since apologized.
Both Helps and Desjardins also defend Elsner being paid while he is suspended after facing new accusations of trying to pressure witnesses and destroy evidence.
The mayors in court paperwork outline how events unfolded and add the facts must come out to determine if Elsner should face further sanctions.
