An early morning street racer has been busted for going twice the speed limit on Highway 1.
An officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 1 near 152nd Street around 1:20 in the morning when a 2008 Grey Infiniti caught his eye, speeding 142 kilometres in a 90 kilometre zone.
With the officer in hot pursuit of the rocketing car, he noticed it joined a second car and the two were side by side.
That’s when Sergeant Annie Linteau with RCMP says the speed picked up.
“And he observed that both vehicles accelerated to a radar reading of 197 kilometres an hour in a 100 kilometre an hour zone.”
The Infiniti was stopped, and the 22-year-old new driver was served up a $468 ticket for excessive speed, a 15 day driving ban, and the vehicle was impounded.
But RCMP are asking anyone who saw the other rogue car to contact police.
