1) Read The Nest by Cynthis D’Aprix Sweeney. It’s our Black Bond pick for the month and I don’t always recommend our monthly pick but this time I unreservedly say – read it!
I enjoyed this tale of a dysfunctional New York family of 40-somethings — I even recommended it to our News Director Terry Schintz, and it was a hit with him too.
2) A thank you to all those who helped out with #FeedMeFriday to benefit the Surrey Food Bank and food banks all over Metro Vancouver.
When we heard how overwhelmed they were these days, it was heartening how many people wanted to help. The one stat that has stuck with me? They serve more babies and toddlers than just about any food bank in Canada.
A reminder, they do NOT canvas door to door or solicit by phone. To make a donation, check out their website surreyfoodbank.org.
3) Playoffs. It was bad enough that no Canadian teams made the playoffs but Canucks fans’ dreams were also dashed by the NHL Draft Lottery when the team received the fifth pick.
Tough going for hockey fans, so at my house we’ve turned our attention to basketball.
Go Raptors. At least it’s a Canadian team!
