U.S. President Barrack Obama made his final address to the White House Correspondents’ Association Saturday, at the group’s annual dinner.
At the event, always a comedic affair, the president is often the butt of the jokes; but the Commander in Chief also gets a chance to crack a few zingers himself – and this year Obama proved he was ready to give as well as he got.
Obama joked about how the job had aged him and how his wife couldn’t wait to get out of the white house (“caught climbing the White House fence,”) but he also poked fun at his political peers and rivals.
On Canada’s handsome new selfie-happy Prime Minister:
“Somebody recently said to me, ‘Mr. President, you are so yesterday. Justin Trudeau has completely replaced you. He’s so handsome, he’s so charming. He’s the future.”
“I said, ‘Justin, just give it a rest.”
And on Republican front-runner Donald Trump (who did not attend the event):
“You’ve got a room full of reporters, celebrities, cameras and he says no. Is this dinner too tacky for the Donald?”
“What could he possibly be doing instead? Is he at home, eating a Trump steak? Tweeting out insults to Angela Merkel? What’s he doing?”
Obama also took a crack at the 2016 presidential election, leveling a gag-come-prediction:
“It’s anyone’s guess who she will be.”
