The National Energy Board Environmental Assessment of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion will no longer be enough in B.C.
The Provincial Environmental Assessment Office has informed Kinder Morgan it is now launching its own assessment of the pipeline.
In a letter written by Executive Project Director Nathan Braun, he notes a recent court decision ruling for B.C. First Nations who argued the province couldn’t surrender its authority to review pipeline projects.
He then notes the pipeline expansion meets the criteria for review with potential health, safety, and environmental impacts.
Pending the provincial review, the letter informs Trans Mountain it cannot proceed until the review is complete.
