Peter Fassbender, the Minister responsible for TransLink is talking up progress on the Evergreen Line extension, promising taxpayers won’t be on the hook for the delays.
“I know those have been dealt with, with the contractor and the project authority. This project will be on time and no budget, so I can assure you that the work that is going on between the contractor and the project team has been taken to a place where I think we have resolution.”
He also says the project will be on time, despite the finish date moving from 2016 to 2017.
The delay was been mainly due to issues over tunneling.
Fassbender also saying mediation with contractor SNC Lavalin has wrapped up.
“You know, on a project this complex, there are alwasy things that come up that weren’t anticipated in the early days. I know those have been dealt with, with the contractor, and the project authority. This project will be on time and on budget.”
Fassbender saying the project for the budget did have contingencies allowing for overruns, and promised details would be released publicly only after the project was complete.
The work is slated to begin at Inlet Centre Station and Moody Centre Station in the next few weeks.
