On the 4th anniversary of the Lakeland sawmill explosion in Prince George, a renewed call from the BC Federation of Labor for a full public inquiry.
“I think families and some of the workers still deserve answers to some of their questions.”
President Irene Lanzinger says she’s calling on Premier Christy Clark to hold someone criminally responsible for the tragic accident.
Although 33 recommendations were made after a coroner’s inquest last May, Lanzinger says it’s not enough.
“Who is responsible? Are we doing enough to control dust and explosions? There was also recommendations around how the investigation was conducted, we hope cleaning up how investigations are conducted will mean that they are conducted in a way that can lead to criminal and administrative charges.”
Lanzinger says the public inquiry is for the Lakeland explosions and the deadly Babine blasts outside Burns Lake which killed two workers and injured 20.
CKNW has reached out to the Premier, but have yet to hear back.
