The Minister for Children and Family Development has announced that 644 children who had been in government care have been adopted into families over the past year.
Stephanie Cadieux says it was a tough road getting there.
Initially places for three hundred kids was the target the previous year.
But she says it became clear that goal would not be met.
“So we brought everybody back together again, and we set a new goal. With the help of our partners, the Representative for Children and Youth, who with me is united in this desire and the Adopt a Family Association and other partners…we pledged to find forever homes for six hundred children and youth over two years.”
With that target exceeded, Cadieux says three million dollars in new funding will be put towards adoption and permanency work, including aboriginal agencies, to find adoptive homes for children.
