The publicist for Prince has now confirmed that the musician has died at age 57.
TMZ reported earlier that medical emergency staff were called to the artist’s Minnesota estate this morning.
Though it’s not yet known how the singer died, he was rushed to hospital on April 15 after suffering from a bad flu virus.
Prince, whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Both his parents were musicians.
He sold over 100 million records worldwide, becoming one of the best selling artists of all time.
He last performed in Vancouver in 2013, putting on four shows at the Vogue Theatre.
Prior to that, he performed at Rogers Arena in 2011 for his ‘Welcome 2 Canada’ tour, which followed his ‘Welcome 2 America’ tour.
